Due out this fall, iOS 7 has been redesigned from the font to its user interface navigation. Find new features and improved apps. A newly developed way for you to instantly access your iDevice settings from any screen, called Control Center makes for quick settings of controls. By simply swiping from the bottom of the screen, you swipe open the Control Center menu containing settings for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Airplane mode, music player with playback controls, flashlight, camera, calculator, timer, use AirPlay and more.
Notification center can be accessed from the lock screen. It takes all of your missed calls, new email, to dos, shared photo streams, messages and more and places them in a unified summary area. You can filter through notifications and the Today feature provides you with all the info you need for Today, just swipe down from the top of the screen to view. Other views include the All and Missed.
Another new capability of iOS 7 is in its multitasking. It adapts by learning what frequently used apps you use. To see what applications are open, press the Home key two times and swipe through them. To close an app simply swipe one up.
AirDrop lets you share via encrypted Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. You can send media and anything shareable from any application to anyone near you without the need to setup. Select a contact or multiple receipts and share. Whatever form of file you receive it is automatically saved to its corresponding area, such as a video with videos.
The new Camera application (pictured left) lets you swipe through from mode to mode - from video to photo to Square to Panorama. Add filters to stills and square pictures. Some of the available filters include mono, process, fade, and tonal. Filters can be removed at anytime.
Your photos and videos are now grouped by time and location through categories organized by Years in Collections down to Moments. A Collection would be a trip to Orlando, FL and the Moments would contain pictures from Walt Disney World.
iCloud Photo Sharing enables you to create a photo stream where comments, videos and photos automatically appear on every shared iOS device. In the new Activity view, you can see all updated streams in one area.
The Safari browser has an improved layout with its unified smart search field that only displays when you need it. Additionally, a new tab view lets you see all open web pages that can be easily closed by swiping it offscreen (pictured left).
You can see all URLs from the Twitter Timeline, read articles from your Reading List, and use iCloud Keychain that utilizes 256-bit AES encryption for storing account names, passwords, credit card numbers for automatic entry used for web shopping and logging in. iCloud Keychain is also found in OS X Mavericks. There is also a Password Generator that creates strong passwords for you to use.
Siri has been redesigned and has new features. You can select amongst either a female or male voice and is quicker at answering your questions by searching through Wikipedia, Twitter, and Bing (results are listed on screen without exiting Siri and entering the Safari). Siri is listening and you can now tell by waveform indication. It also has the capability of controlling iTunes Radio, voicemail playback, calling someone back and more.
iOS 7 iTunes Radio is free and provides you with streaming radio stations and is available for your iDevices, MAC, Apple TV and PC. There are more than 200 genres to search through and you can build stations, create wish lists of songs you like, and view History to review what you've heard.
