Welcome "Not so Cordially" to – Reception Blues!
Get a cell phone antenna !
You are going on your early morning walk; it is very serene and calm around you. There are people walking along with you, each of them in their own world. And suddenly you hear somebody shouting HELLOOOOO right into your ears and walks ahead without even bothering to apologize for spoiling your peaceful walk. You see this guy who is talking on his cell phone, concealing it behind the flat of his hand.
What do you think can be the reason for this guy’s unruly attitude?? Yeah!! It is the poor reception of signals on his cell phone. After the Monday Morning blues, Mid-Week Blues, Lost Your Girlfriend Blues, Now it is RECEPTION BLUES!
But why do we have to face these reception blues at all? What are the reasons that cause poor reception? Most of us think that too many subscribers accessing the network simultaneously probably causes network blocking, thus causing poor reception. This is a baseless assumption as our network traffic doesn’t really affect the quality, unless the system is available.
And, before we actually know the reasons for poor reception, we have to know how subscribers are assigned cellular signals. The division of subscribers is based on the area he/she lives in. The providers divide these subscribers into different cells and each cell has a base station. These base stations are the towers with radio equipments. Hence, when a subscriber sends or receives signals, it is sent & received by the tower based on the range of frequencies assigned to the subscriber’s provider.
When the provider tries to stuff in many calls into one frequency it is then that it clogs the network resulting in poor reception for the subscriber.
Is it always the Provider’s fault? Are there any other reasons that can cause poor reception? Sure there can be various other factors that can cause poor reception of signals on your mobile. The cell phone signal reception can be bad when …
• You are sitting close to other active electronic devices like the TV, Computer, and Music System etc.
• You are staying in the outskirts, a little away from the base station. Or when tall buildings or mountains obstruct the signals between the subscriber and the tower.
• If the battery of your phone conks off or needs a replacement.
• When the cell phone antenna is not extended in low coverage areas (sometimes in high coverage areas too)
• When your network clogs with other networks like the GSMs, CDMAs, TDMAs etc.
• When the weather is poor. If it’s stormy or very hot or when it’s lightning or thundering.
With so many reasons for poor reception, is there no way to improve them? Here are a few tips to improve your cell phone antenna reception:
1. Stay away from any active electronic devices while you are sending or receiving calls.
2. If you stay in the outskirts or if mountain terrain affects your signal, request your Provider to install one more base station or at least to do something about the poor reception (may be by providing you with an additional transmitter)
3. Check your handset battery from time to time, replace them if needed.
4. Always check your antenna first. When you can’t hear, extend it fully.
5. If everything’s working fine and you still have trouble with the reception, contact your Provider immediately.
Well, with all these reasons for poor reception, you can’t do much but curse and continue with your morning walk, because what happened to that guy this morning could happen to you tomorrow morning!
