Day one of the Consumer Electronics Show 2013 introduced a Windows 8 20-inch tablet from Panasonic, new smartphones and Android based gaming console and Windows 8 gaming tablets. CES 2013 ends in a few days but there is still lots to cover. In case you do not know what is covered at CES its basically an electronics fanatic's dream. Audio, automotive electronics, computer hardware and software, connected home, content distribution, digital health and fitness, digital imaging, electronic gaming, emerging technology (such as biometerics, nanotechnology), entertainment, internet-based multimedia services, video, wireless and wireless devices and more are showcased.

The Windows 8 Panasonic 20-inch tablet prototype stands out due to its 4k 3840 x 2560 px resolution IPS LED touchscreen (230 ppi). It weighs 5 pounds and uses an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, Nividia GeForce graphics and 128GB solid-state drive. Other features include microSD card slot, front HD camera, Bluetooth version 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and one USB 2.0 port. It is targeted at designers and may carry a hefty price tag when released.

CES 2013 brings out new smartphones from Samsung, Sony, Huawei, Alcatel, ZTE and more. For Verizon the Samsung Ativ Odyssey features a 5MP camera, has a 4" Super AMOLED touch screen, 1.5 GHz dual core processor, and runs on Windows Phone 8. Sony announced the Xperia Z and the Xperia ZL. The Sony Xperia Z runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, has a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB RAM, 5" full HD (1080 x 1920 px) Reality Touch screen with Mobile Bravia Engine 2, connects at 4G LTE, has a 13 megapixel camera and is water & dust resistant. The Sony Xperia ZL features the same specs only it is smaller and isn't water & dust resistant.

Huawei announces the Ascend Mate and the D2. The Ascend Mate is a smartphone / tablet and has a 6.1" HD touch screen with an 8MP camera. The D2 features a 5" touch screen, 13MP camera and a 1.5 GHz Quad-Core processor. Alcatel created an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean smartphone called One TOuch Scribe HD that has a 5-inch touchscreen, 8MP camera and 1.5 GHz Quad-Core processor. ZTE steps up with the Grand S boasting a 1.7 GHz Snapdragon S4 Quad-Core processor with 2GB RAM on a 5-inch touch screen, Android Jelly Bean, Dolby Digital, and a 13 megapixel camera.

The Consumer Electronics Show delivers an Android based gaming console from Nvidia. Called, Nvidia Shield this video game controller with a flip open screen runs solely on Android. It can also play streamed games from a PC via Wi-Fi.

The CES Innovations Awards are awarded to products with the highest scores based on several factors ranging from specs to design. The Touch Table PC by Moneual is a 2013 Honoree. This Touch Table PC allows you to look through menus, order and pay for food right from the table. Not only restaurants can make the most of the Touch Table PC. Hotels, airports, libraries and many other business can take advantage of it.

Another 2013 Honoree is Belkin with its WeMo Baby. The Wemo Baby consists of a free smartphone app and a baby monitor. More 2013 Honorees include 3DPCase by Sculpteo. 3DPCase is an app that lets you customize and order 3D Apple iPhone cases. Vuzix Corporation enters its Smart Glasses that functions as a smartphone display.
