Massachusetts, June 7th 2012: In a landmark case a court convicted an 18 years old to 2 and a half years in prison for killing a 55 years old man while texting and driving.
Most people might say it was about time. Texting-while-driving has become an epidemic in the U.S. and abroad. Almost 4,000 people per year die because of texting-distracted drivers.
Mr Donald Bowley, 55, of Danville, New Hampshire died after 18 days due to a crash where Aaron Deveau, 18, drived into the center lane while texting and hit Bowley's car heads-on.
With 38 states with laws against this practice, parents are starting to look at technology to help their kids from themselves. We spotted a couple of apps that prevent a phone from operating if the app notices texting or gaming. Cellcontrol and Zoomsafer have noticeable differences, but the concept remains the same. Cellcontrol seems to be targeting teens and blocks the phone as soon as the app senses movement. Zoomsafer is more for companies in need of analyzing the behavior of their fleet operators and blocking their phone use while driving.
