MOTOROLA L6 - Review and Tip and Tricks

The MOTOROLA L6 is an Ultra-thin candy bar phone with limited but useful features. It incorporates work, fun and entertainment in a lightweight design which will easily slide unobtrusively into any shirt or trouser pocket. It has a mini-USB port for wired synchronization with a computer and is bluetooth-enabled for the wireless option. The mini-USB port doubles up as the charging port too and hence one cannot do synchronization and charge at the same time. MP3 ring tones, though limited are of good clarity. The camera with 4X zoom, though VGA, is quite good and is easily among the best for phones in this price band. Lack of an extendable memory option (10MB is not a lot in this age and time) and relatively sluggish operations might work against the fans of this phone.
It does have the regular features of a mid-level phone with loud speaker, group sms, calculator, currency converter, alarm clock, a datebook with reminder alarms and even wap 2.0 web access. It has unique features like a MULTIMEDIA ALBUM which helps you to organize your photos into a mobile photo album.
Overall, a sleek-looking silver metallic phone marginally thinner than the L7 with sharp display but difficult to get used to, like most MOTOROLA phones. This piece is certainly for the design aficionado who is not looking for the most advanced of features in his mobile.
Currently the phone is being offered with Cingular Wireless Service

There are different options of entering text in a MOTOROLA L6 to send a sms.
1. The # button is used to toggle between the different text entry modes in the phone
2. The 'abc' indicates alphabet input mode, '123' indicates number input mode and '@' indicates symbol input mode.

5. The above options can be selected by pressing the main menu soft key while in the text entry screen of a sms and choosing ENTRY SETUP
6. The ITAP mode is intelligent predictive software which helps you type common word quickly by pressing just one key per alphabet and the phone suggesting complete words as per the dictionary. For e.g. to type the word "change", just press the keys 2-4-2-6-4-3 once in that order and the phone will show "change" as the completed word on screen
7. Also, while in the text entry mode, pressing '0' will help you toggle between uppercase (ABC), lowercase (abc) and sentence case (Abc) options
8. In regular tap mode, the keys have to be pressed sequentially. So 'c' can be typed by pressing the '1' key thrice. This mode is typically used for uncommon words not found in a dictionary
9. In ITAP mode, press '1' to enter special characters including punctuation
10. To quickly enter numbers in ITAP mode, select and hold the corresponding number key and it will temporarily go to numeric mode. Fill in one or more numbers and you can revert to ITAP mode by entering a space.
11. Also, in ITAP mode, after entering three or more alphabets, the phone can suggest completed word by guessing the rest of the alphabets.
How to prevent unauthorized access to your phone?
• There are two codes for the security of the MOTOROLA L6, the unlock code which is usually 4 digits and is set originally to '1234' and the security code which is 6 digits and set at the factory to '000000'. These codes are the same across the world unless a specific service provider decides to change them.
• To change the unlock code, you can go to NEW PASSWORDS by going to the SECURITY option in the SETTINGS menu. The phone will prompt you to enter UNLOCK code, Put in '1234' or the last 4 digits of your phone number and if both don't work, try the security code 6 digit number.
• If you lose the other codes like SIM PIN code, PIN2 code, cell barring password and even the SECURITY CODE, these can be reset by only the service provider.
• You can prevent others from misusing your phone locking it when not in use. This is achieved by selecting LOCK NOW in the PHONE LOCK options in the SECURITY menu
• Choosing AUTOMATIC LOCK to ON in the PHONE LOCK menu will lock the phone automatically whenever it is turned off.
• A locked phone can receive phone calls but will need to be unlocked using the code to be answered
• There is also a simple way to prevent accidental pressing of keys by locking the key pad using the main menu soft key followed by the '*' key in quick succession.
