Motorola has grown in leap and bounds in the quality of it's accessories production. Towards the end of the nineties this manufacturer dominated thanks to a variety of succesful models such as the Microtac and Startac both in the handset space and in accessories sales. Quality however became an issue and it's dominance was challenged by Nokia which rapidly climbed to a near 40% market share by the turn of the century.

Currently Motorola has a very succesful accessory catalog where a car charger for example can be used across many models, helping comsumers make the best use of their accessories when upgrading/changing from model to model. The same can be said of data kits and ac plugs (often come with international extensions). Also, because many Motorola models use 2.5 mm plugs, a vast array of earbuds and handsfree solutions are available to Motorola handset owners such as those made by Jabra & Plantronics. But perhaps the most notable marketing drive occurred in 2005 with the splash made by the Razr and the Rokr. This new generation of phones hints at a new, young and innovative Motorola and provides a glimpse into the future of this IL based powerhouse.

Review by J.E.: As a new owner of a Mini Cooper, I've been looking for a phone that is compatible with the Mini's in-steering wheel Bluetooth kit (designed and installed by dealer--also priced as such!) AND a Parrot Bluetooth kit that is supposed to work just as well (although you have to install it yourself--but much more reasonably priced). There are really only 3 phones on the market that fit this requirement...and the v551 is the only one that was a recommended buy by several consumer groups, including PCWorld. This one's a no brainer for me!
