NEXTEL TEXT MESSAGING:
Nextel text messaging is the service provided by Nextel to communicate with your near and dear ones when talking is not the best thing to do. Text messaging is unique in itself as a service because:
Text messaging is discreet – It does not disturb and intrude on privacy of the user while sending or receiving a text message.
Text messaging is flexible – It can be sent to any mobile phone capable of handling text messages or any email and messages can be written up to 500 characters.
Text messaging is personal – Nextel helps a user organize his/her text messages and allow easy messaging short cuts to frequently-messaged numbers and also control junk messages using spam filters.
Nextel text messaging can be sent to Nextel Phone as well as to any other wireless carrier, as all carriers are compatible to send and receive text messages across all subscribers. Text messages can be sent to another mobile phone or even another landline number of another carrier. A user has to merely type the required text and then insert the recipient’s 10-digit number to send the message across instantly. If the recipient is from the user’s phone book, the name of the person can be inserted after typing the message instead of the number. This helps in sending messages easily across to known names rather than unknown numbers.
Messages are usually sent to one recipient but they can be sent up to 20 mobile phones at once on the sprint website. The process is very similar to sending the message to one person. Before typing the message, the user has to choose “Send group message” from the left menu of navigation. Then the other numbers in the group can be added and the message can reach all the numbers in the list.
Messages can also be sent to an email address instead of a mobile phone number in which case the recipient will receive the text message as an email. To do this, the phone has to be first switched to the SYM mode while inserting the email id in the place of the phone number so that the user can access the symbol “@” to be added in the email id. Another interesting feature of Nextel text messaging is that messages can be sent from an email address as well. The email has to be addressed as “mobilenumber@messaging.nextel.com” so that the recipient will receive it as a text message on the addressed number.
This service can also be used to participate in television contests and voting program by merely typing as per instructed in the program and then adding the number shown on screen in the place of a mobile number or an email id. This service, though, will depend on the compatibility of the contest or the poll with the wireless carrier. Sprint usually conducts polls and contests which are compatible only with Nextel mobile subscribers.
Messages can be sent using default messages already pre-set in the Nextel Cell Phone. This can be done on the “Compose message” screen where choosing the “my messages” option will give the user a list of message templates readily available. A similar facility is available while replying to messages and the set of default messages can be viewed under “My replies”.
In addition to domestic national messaging, international text messaging is also possible through sprint Nextel’s network. The only difference is that the user needs to add the international country code before the mobile phone number of that country can be inserted. So a message to someone in UK will be addressed as: “+44 10-digit mobile number”. Currently Nextel does not offer the facility of receiving and sending messages while roaming in an international location.
