Just when we thought that the worlds slimmest slider phone the D800 was swamped with all the rave reviews, Samsung introduced another 12.9 m phone with more advanced features the D900. And this phone actually is worth all the attention it is getting, at least thats what we think so. It has a 3 Mega pixel camera with auto focus, a great QVGA screen, MP3 player, TV Out, GPRS, EDGE class 10 and Bluetooth connectivity. But before the internal memory of 60 GB puts you off, it would be good to mention that the phone comes with an expandable microSD slot. This is a must if one has to enjoy that advanced music capabilities that this phone has to offer like a dedicated playlist, different equalizer modes, two-way stereo speakers, etc.
One of the biggest improvements over the D800 is the extremely user-friendly keys which was the single-point bane of the earlier slim phone beauty. The camera comes under scrutiny for not being able to deliver the high quality that even a predecessor like the D600 managed (which is only a 2.0 Mega pixel compared to the D900s 3.0 Mega pixel).
Overall, this is one phone that packs quite a punch in the looks as well as functionality department and it is this quality coupled with Korean precision which comes through is the ease with which Samsung slider phones slide. It is almost as if their phones are built for it. This is an insignificant but well-appreciated feature in all Samsung phones. The Samsung D900 comes across as a phone which has all that you can imagine in a width of 12.9 mm but it still makes you wonder if it is worth the price that you are paying for it?
How to watch the display of the phone on a Television?
The display on the display screen of a Samsung D900 can be viewed on a television screen by connecting the television and phone with a TV-out cable. This facility helps users to view images and videos stored on their phone on a larger screen with their friends and family.
1. First switch the television on and change the input to external input mode
2. Connect the phone and the television with a TV cable
3. The display on the phone will change to the TV out mode and the display screen of the phone can be viewed on the television
4. Sometimes, it might be required to change video system in the television to TV OUT.
5. Once all connections are done, opening the corresponding applications and files will let you watch images and video on your Samsung D900.
Some important information:
Display of some files of the phone on the television screen will depend on video quality and may lead to vibration of images during display
In TV OUT mode, the Bluetooth headset and zooming feature will be disabled
The locations and size of all cable connectors will vary based on model of Television
What are the In-call options in a Samsung SGH-D900?
There are a number of functions that one can use during a call and these are known as in-call functions
Using the UP and DOWN keys can alter the earpiece volume during the call
Pressing the soft keys for HOLD and RETRIEVE is used to hold and retrieve calls. These are primarily used to toggle between two calls.
To make a second call in the middle of a first one is a network-supported function. To perform this function, depress the HOLD button to put the first call on hold. Then, dial the second number as you would do it normally. If you require switching between calls, press the SWAP key. If you want to end the call on hold, select OPTIONS and press the END HELD CALL button. The current call can be ended as you would end any regular call.
If the call waiting function is activated in the phone, one can answer a call even if one is in the middle of another conversation on the phone. But this is a network-supported function
The speakerphone option can be activated to listen to the voice on the other end on the phones front speakers. Pressing the OK button will toggle between speakerphone and earpiece.
Toggling between Voice Clarity on/off will let the other person hear you even in noisy surroundings.
If you do not want the other person to hear your voice, you can toggle between MUTE/UNMUTE
Select JOIN to start a multi-caller online conference. You can add upto five callers on a multi-party conference.
Select SPLIT to have an exclusive conversation with one person in a multi-party call excluding the others. Selecting JOIN again will bring back the SPLIT party to the conference again.
Choosing TRANSFER will let a caller on a current active conversation talk to a caller on a held call. In this call, you would be excluded from the call between the two parties.
How to play music files from your Samsung SGH-D900?
Once the music player is switched on, there are two ways of listening to the music either through the speakerphone on the phone or through a Bluetooth stereo headset which is connected wirelessly to the phone. Once either is connect, we can use any of the following keys during playback:
The OK key toggles between resuming and pausing playback
The UP key allows us to access the current playlist
The left button has two function when it is pressed once, it skips to the previous file and if it is held down, it rewinds in the same track
Similarly the right button too has two functions When pressed once, it skips to the next file and if it is held down, goes forward in the same track.
The various number keys of the phone have corresponding functions in the music player mode:
The #1 key alters the equalizer mode
The #2 key alters the playback animation
The #3 key alters the repeat mode
The #4 key toggles between ON and OFF of 3D sound
The #6 key sets the player to play random music files
The #7 key indicates the start and end of the section that is required to be repeated
The DOWN key ends playback of the current track
Choosing the OPTIONS soft key will also allow you to access different functions like OPEN PLAYLIST, REMOVE FROM PLAYLIST, SETINGS, etc
What are the voice recorder options in a D900?
The voice recorder can be used to record voice memos which are upto an hour long.
To record a voice memo, select the OK button to begin recording. Now the voice will be recorded in the voice of person who speaks into the microphone. Select the OK button again to pause and resume the recording. Once done, select the SAVE button or the DOWN key to save the voice memo.
To playback a voice memo, select OPTIONS and choose GO TO MY VOICE CLIPS. Once inside this menu, select any voice memo that you want to be played back. You can choose the limit of the voice memo by selecting RECORDING TIME option. There are three options of LIMIT for MMS, EMAIL and ONE HOUR which is by default, can record memos upto an hour. The VOLUME options allow the volume level to be altered and VISUALISATION option allows an equalizer image to be chosen on the screen.
How to view documents in a Samsung D900?
First, it is required to select the files / documents that are required to be opened. Documents which can be viewed using a piscel file viewer on a Samsung D900 phone are Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF, Plain text, etc.
Please note: The viewer may not display contents properly due to file size, memory capabilities of the Piscel file viewer or if the files are in a language not supported by the viewer.
The following functions are available under OPTIONS when in the document viewer menu.
The FULL SCREEN VIEW / NORMAL VIEW toggles between the two view options.
FIT TO function manages to fit the document as per the page size, screen width or screen height.
ROTATE is used to rotate the document.
The START SEARCHING/STOP SEARCHING activates the ability to search for a specific word in a document.
The SEND VIA lets you send the file via an MMS, Email or through Bluetooth
Similarly, PRINT VIA lets you print documents to a printer either through Bluetooth or through a USB cable.
LOCK/UNLOCK lets you set a security setting to a document and prevent the file from being deleted
MOVE TO CARD and COPY TO CARD are two forms of shifting the document file to a memory card
If you want to share the file with other Bluetooth devices in the vicinity, you can choose the BLUETOOTH VISIBILITY option.
The SHORTCUTS option lets you see the specific functions that keys have while in the Piscel viewer mode.
