Samsung a670 – a video phone for the masses
Camera phones have been around for a long time now and off late there have also been phones with Video out there in the market. The new Samsung a670, with its classic Samsung looks, paves the way for videophones for Verizon Wireless. With round edges and silver shell, this flip phone is not just stylistically designed but also decently priced.
Design
Its compact design makes it a pleasure to carry around. It measures 3.2 x 1.8 x 1.0 inches and weighs 3.8 ounces. The phone has two displays – the external display is 65K color, which shows date, time, battery life, signal strength, caller ID and also picture caller ID, if it is available. Above the external display is the camera lens and flash. Once you open the phone the 65K welcomes you with a 1.75 inch display screen.
Menu
The menu is animated and is easy to use. You can either use the main controls or the volume rocker on the left side of the phone. The navigation is set in a circular pattern and it has a four-way toggle with a dedicated OK button set in the center of it. On the right of the phone is a shutter key to activate the camera. The keypad buttons are backlit, which makes dialing in the dark easy.
Camera
The Samsung a 670 is has a VGA camera with a 4X digital zoom. It can click pictures in three different resolutions, 640x480 (large), 320x240 (medium), and 160x120 (small). It offers six color tones and three quality settings. You can also record up to 12 seconds of video. It has very less memory and you can store up to 32 pictures and 2 videos. A really cool feature is that you can close the phone in camera mode and take pictures of yourself using the outer screen.
Messaging
Standard text messaging formats includes SMS (Short Messaging Service), EMS (Enhanced Messaging Service), and MMS (Multimedia Message Service). The T9 predictive texts make typing messages fast. Adding sound to your messages and creating your signature style in every message you send is now possible with the Samsung a670.
