T-Mobile has introduced a variety of innovative rate plans that have often paved the way for other service providers. In addition to being the first carrier to introduce GSM technology to its switches, an infrastructural decision that is actually conditional to a lot of rate plan merchandising, T-Mobile was the first to introduce international roaming to it's plans. This feature of course was made possible by integration with the global GSM network. SMS, also know as text messaging plans were also highlighted as interoperability between handsets allowed text messaging between an ever growing network of end-users. But perhaps it's with mobile to mobile and family plans that this provider set a real trend. A combination of these two features has in fact allowed T-Mobile users to obtain discounts on a very large network of friends, family and business cellular numbers either within the 'family' pool or simply by virtue of being T-Mobile users. How's money saved ? The way this T-Mobile feature works, is by reserving the family allowance to members of the family. In other words the allowance is not depleted when calling in-network numbers. Another innovative feature is the Free Nationwide Long Distance: by adding this feature to existing ones such as FamilyTime and Mobile to Mobile, you have unlimited long distance calling to a family member that lives-works in a different area code. And the network expands even further ... thanks to the intersection of these plan features.
